The difference between box braids and cornrows is simply that box braids are individual braids; and cornrows are long rows of small, medium or large braids.  Box braids has more versatility whereas cornrows are more stationary.  In other words, box braids allows the client the freedom of changing the style within the 3-4 weeks period. Whereas cornrows keep the client limited to that one hair style.  Princes may vary depending on the stylist and the style.  Although box braids can be time consuming the style can last one month to a month and a half.  While wearing braids it is important to condition and moisturize the hair and keep up with trims.
